Dear Druffalo,

while it is common knowledge that you have to be willing to perform your music as a DJ or live act if you want it to surface in a huge ocean of releases, there is not much advice around on offer on how you perform if you are not really a natural entertainer and you want to use modern digital equipment.

Dear reader,

this is, of course, a tricky one. The entertainment potential of modern digital equipment is unfortunately still alarmingly disproportionate to the performance pressure heaped upon the modern producer. It is true that you cannot enter the club circuit on the strength of your productions alone and let other DJs do the performing, but there is hope. The club circuit may be in steady need of new attractions, but its crowds are often totally oblivious of what you do up there in the DJ booth or on stage. If not, and you are a really good producer but not a very good DJ or live act, we recommend you distract from this fact. Masks, Go Go Dancing, robots, curtains, really big laptops or people hired to stand in are options, but all of which have been used before. We can’t really recommend anyone to do as the Druffalo Hit Squad does, because we are naturally smart, completely unrestrained and our taste, knowledge and skills are shaped by years and years of practical experience, plus we’re complete luddites. If you lack all that, either give up, give in, or refuse to play the performance game altogether. But then your music better sound heaven sent.
